On March 27, the Newport City Council approved a nonbinding resolution asking Rhode Island's General Assembly for approval on legislation that would enable the City of Newport to impose a two percent conveyance tax on homebuyers. Legislation has been introduced in the Rhode Island House of Representatives and the Senate, and we need your help to stop these bills from passing.
A proposed two percent conveyance tax on home buyers in Newport will have far reaching ramifications. Not only will it hurt Newport's housing market, but it could be detrimental to RI citizens statewide.
Take action and tell your Representative and Senator to OPPOSE H 5973 and S 669.
